Both the 7th grade and 8th grade Lady Bombers lost to Wolf Branch last night. The 7th grade started off strong in the first set losing by 2, only to struggle in the second set causing the loss. Communication played a major part in our errors and defeat. For the 8th grade, Gaby E. started off with strong serving earning points with her team, but the Bombers couldn’t hold on to the lead falling behind the Wolverines. In the second set the team struggled to pass and put all parts of the game in place. Both teams will rise from the downfall and come back strong with our games next week. In the meantime, we have practice today until 4:30p and the 7th grade have their tournament tomorrow at Belle Valley. Go Bombers!
Scholar Bowl Party is Monday, February 25 after school until 4:00. Please remember to turn in your Scholar Bowl uniforms.
Last night the Belle Valley Bowling Team played against west Jr High. Alysa B, Haylee M, David J, and Carter L, bowled a great series as well. Great job team! Keep up the great work! Don't forget we have a game Monday against Lebanon at Bel-Air Bowl!

After being down 14-3, Xavier R. put the team on his back and came up with 8 good serves in a row to bring the game close but still falling just short losing the final game 15-10. (Read by student) Thurgood Marshall is a must-know figure in Black history. He was the first African-American to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. But as a kid, he was mischievous, and was once forced to write copies of the Constitution as punishment for his misbehavior. He later said that punishment piqued his interest in the Constitution. As a young adult, he applied to his hometown law school at the University of Maryland, but was denied entrance because of being Black. He later sued the school and won. And before he became a judge, he was a successful attorney who, most famously, won the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education case, which ended school segregation. Way to go Thurgood!
Way to go 7th grade Lady Bombers! They beat JAMS in two well played games. Delaney G. did an amazing job serving 12 consecutive serves for points! Serenity C. and Nyla W. served very well too. Our passing game was on point to help lead us to a win! Practice today until 4:30p.
In typical fashion, the 8th grade Lady Bombers caused their coaches blood pressure to rise as they played a fantastic three games against JAMS last evening. The players fought through the overpowering noise of the JAMS gymnasium fighting back from a 7 point deficit in the third set to win. EACH player did their part to pull their team together. If you haven’t watched your 8th grade ladies play, be sure to catch a game. We practice today until 4:30p. Go Bombers!!!

What a fight by the 8th grade Lady Bombers! Unfortunately, they fell to Whiteside in three great sets last night. It was back and forth in each set. The 8th grade boys’ basketball team sadly ended their season on Saturday in the opening round of the state tournament. We matched up against a red hot shooting Wesclin team in a terrific basketball game. We found ourselves down by 11 in the first half, but battled back to cut the lead to 2 at the half on a buzzer beater 3-pointer by Jordan P. The lead switched hands several times in the second half, and both teams were fighting hard for the win. We trailed by 3 with 30 seconds left in the game. After a timeout the team took the floor focused and poised. With 9 seconds Jordan P. hit another 3 to tie the game. Unfortunately, the Warriors hit 2 free throws with 1.1 seconds on the clock. The game ended 57-55. Scoring included: Jordan L.-7 pts, Jordan L.-8 pts, Alex J. and Christian D.-5 pts, Jahkori A.-1pt, and Jordan P. led all scorers with 27 pts, including 6 three pointers. Coach is proud of the job the team did all year long. I admire your dedication to this team and to the game of basketball. I am also proud that you kept your integrity and sportsmanship when things didn’t go our way.. Great job boys, and what a season! (Read by student) Did you know that the first licensed African American Female pilot was named Bessie Coleman? Born in Atlanta, Texas in 1892, Bessie Coleman grew up in a world of harsh poverty, discrimination and segregation. She moved to Chicago at 23 to seek her fortune, but found little opportunity there as well. Wild tales of flying exploits from returning WWI soldiers first inspired her to explore aviation, but she faced a double stigma in that dream being both African American and a woman. After earning her pilot’s license in 1921, Coleman performed at numerous airshows over the next five years, performing heart thrilling stunts, encouraging other African Americans to pursue flying, and refusing to perform where Blacks were not admitted. Way to go Bessie!

The 8th grade boys’ basketball team hosted the Carriel Cougars last Friday evening in the regional finals. The Cougars came out ready to play and jumped to an early 7-0 lead. Our Bombers did not panic, instead played a solid defense, moved the ball on offense, and led at the end of the 1st quarter 14-11. Both teams played solid basketball and it was an exciting game for the fans to watch. In the end our Bombers were too much for Carriel and we won the game 53-44. Scoring included: Tygie M.-2pts and he played great defense with a huge blocked shot in the 4th quarter, Jahkori A.-2pts, Alex J, Jordan L, and Christian D. had 6 pts each, Jordan L. 8pts, and Jordan P. led all scorers with 18 pts. The boys’ volleyball team kicked off their season on Saturday with 2 games in the preseason Belle Valley Jamboree. Our Bombers battled and played hard in both games but lost to Pontiac and Signal Hill. Against Pontiac our boys were only down by 3 after the first match showing that they won’t give up with an impressive comeback after trailing by 9 points earlier in the match. Against Signal Hill our Bombers won their first game of the young season but would fall in the next two games with trouble controlling the pass. Our boys’ volleyball team learned a lot from these games and are looking forward to bouncing back and playing 2 more strong games this week. Continue to improve every day, practice after school today.
The 8th grade Lady Bomber’s volleyball team finished 2nd place in the bronze level over the weekend in the O’Fallon tournament. We finished our day with a battle against St Teresa with three very close sets. During all of our games, our serving was strong and we learned to play very well as a team! Our 2nd place finish in our division resulted in a trophy for our trophy case. We practice today until 4:30p. Tomorrow is our first home game of the season against Emge. Come out and support your Lady Bombers!

It is also known as African-American History Month in the United States. The purpose of this month is to remember both the important people of African descent and the important events in Black history. In an effort to honor this expansive and growing history, Black History Month was established by way of a weekly celebration in February known as “Negro History Week” by historian Carter G. Woodson. But just as Black history is more than a month, so too are the numerous events and figures that are often overlooked during it. Throughout the month of February, stay tuned for more information and facts about famous African Americans and how they have made their mark on the world.

(Read by student) Did you know that Lonnie G. Johnson is best known for creating the world-famous Super Soaker water gun? It has earned more than $200 million in sales. Perhaps you’ve contributed to that number every summer. When he’s not adding to summertime fun, Johnson spends most of his time inventing mechanical and electrical systems for NASA rockets, and has earned more than 40 patents for his work. Way to go Lonnie!

Jordan P. and Christian D. were honored with a selection to the 8th grade state All-Star team. Jordan L.y received the same honor for the 7th grade team. We will have a season ending celebration on Saturday from 8-10. All players please report to Coaches room immediately after the announcements.

With this victory the Bombers have earned a berth in the state tournament. Our next game is this Saturday, Feb 9 at Rend Lake College. Way to go boys, coach is proud of you! Practice today right after school. Go Bombers!
Friday night we played St Clare, which was a close game, followed by Edwardsville Lincoln. On Saturday, we started off strong winning against East St Louis Lincoln.
(Read by student) Did you know that Black History Month is celebrated annually in the United States, Canada, in the United Kingdom and in Germany? It is also known as African-American History Month in the United States. The purpose of this month is to remember both the important people of African descent and the important events in Black history. In an effort to honor this expansive and growing history, Black History Month was established by way of a weekly celebration in February known as “Negro History Week” by historian Carter G. Woodson. But just as Black history is more than a month, so too are the numerous events and figures that are often overlooked during it. Throughout the month of February, stay tuned for more information and facts about famous African Americans and how they have made their mark on the world.
